About Fire-Rescue International

Fire-Rescue International (FRI) is the annual conference and exposition of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC). The IAFC was founded in 1873 as the National Association of Fire Engineers and today represents fire and emergency service leaders from career, volunteer and combination departments across North America and beyond.

FRI brings fire chiefs and chief officers together each August for education on leadership, operations, health and safety and community risk reduction, along with an exhibit hall of apparatus, equipment and services. Because its audience is department leadership, it is where many purchasing, staffing and policy decisions for the coming year begin.

Patches are a common language in the fire service. Departments trade shoulder patches, companies have their own crew designs and chiefs collect patches from departments they visit. Exhibitors that hand out a well-made patch have something firefighters keep long after the show, and departments often order trade patches before attending.
