Design Your Dojo Patch Free
Custom patches for karate, BJJ, taekwondo, judo, and all martial arts schools. Belt ranking patches and school logo patches.
Martial arts schools use patches to communicate something that transcends simple branding - the patch on a gi identifies a student's lineage, their school, and the tradition they've committed to. In disciplines like judo, jiu-jitsu, and traditional karate, where the teacher-student relationship carries enormous cultural weight, a school patch is a mark of belonging that students earn simply by showing up and training hard. Unlike patches in other contexts, a dojo patch often lasts for years on a single gi and is expected to survive hundreds of washes, aggressive clinching, and the occasional mat sweat situation. Schools also have highly specific needs: exact reproduction of Japanese or Korean characters, accurate representation of school crests, and belt colors that match precisely so rank is never ambiguous.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you add Japanese or Korean characters?
Yes - our design system supports full Unicode character input, meaning kanji, hiragana, katakana, hangul, and other CJK characters can be incorporated directly into your patch design. Our AI will render the characters visually, and our human expert reviewer - who cross-checks all designs before production - will flag any character rendering issues before the patch goes to the embroidery machines. We strongly recommend having a native speaker review the characters in the proof as well, since subtle stroke differences can change meaning.
Do you make belt rank patches?
Yes - belt rank patches are a popular item for martial arts schools and can be made as simple bar patches in the appropriate belt color, or as more elaborate patches with rank number, student name, and school logo. Typically these are small, around 1.5 to 2 inches wide, and are worn on the gi sleeve or collar. We can produce small batches for individual rank promotions or larger sets if you're outfitting an entire class that just tested.
What size for a gi patch?
The standard placement for a school logo patch on a gi is the upper left chest, where a patch of 3 to 4 inches wide sits proportionately on an adult gi and 2.5 to 3 inches on a youth gi. Sleeve patches on most gi jackets accommodate up to 3 inches in diameter without bunching at the seam. For back patches, which are less common but used by some schools for competition teams, sizes up to 6 inches are feasible with sew-on backing for the most secure attachment through the thick gi fabric.
