Gymnastics and cheer programs have naturally visual cultures — performance, costume, and team identity are central. Custom patches fit perfectly into that world, providing tangible recognition for skills mastered, levels achieved, and competitions entered.
Gymnastics Level Patches
Gymnastics programs use structured level systems (USAG levels 1-10, or similar), making level completion patches a natural fit. Many gyms award a new patch when a gymnast moves up a level, creating a collectible progression series. These patches are typically worn on warm-up jackets and gym bags.
Competition Patches
Meet host patches and performance patches are popular with competition organizers. A distinctive patch for each invitational creates a collectible series that young gymnasts look forward to. Patches are often more coveted than medals by young competitors because they can be displayed and worn.
Design for Gymnastics and Cheer
Gymnast silhouettes (handstand, back-walkover, beam, bars), ribbon and pompom imagery for cheer, stars and sparkles that convey performance energy, and team colors are all strong design elements. For cheer, bold, energetic typography is as important as imagery.
Placement and Application
Warm-up jackets are the primary display surface for gymnastics and cheer patches. 3" to 4" patches work well on jacket sleeves or left chest. For competition bags and equipment bags, a slightly larger 4" patch provides more visibility. Iron-on backing is most practical for parents doing at-home application.
